VETERANS AT TUSCULUM

The Barracks

After World War II, the G.I. Bill made higher education possible for millions of veterans. Many of the returning veterans were adults with families of their own. In response, Tusculum established “the barracks." These were prefabricated, mass-produced structures sold as military surplus after the war.

The Trailers

Tusculum also established a "trailer community" to meet veterans’ housing needs. The trailers were situated where you now stand, in front of Niswonger Commons. By finding creative solutions to veterans’ housing challenges, Tusculum played an important role in local veterans’ ability to enhance their lives.
